The course deals with the various stages of the development of Descartes' metaphysical thought, from the early writings to the Meditations, in an attempt to put out the reasons of continuity but also the many fractures, often unresolved.

The course deals with the various stages of the development of Descartes' metaphysical thought, from the early writings to the Meditations, in an attempt to put out the reasons of continuity but also the many fractures, often unresolved. Particular attention will be devoted to the question of the new function that metaphysics takes on in Descartes' thought: that of constituting the foundation of the science of nature.
