The course of SPANISH LANGUAGE TRAINING [96 hours], held by native-speaker lecturers, will focus on Spanish grammar [CEFR B1 level]. *** Students from LETTERE with a 3-credit exam will only need to attend the first 60 hours. *** Students from TURISMO and other Degrees with a 12-credit exam will also attend the module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM [15 hours], held by Professor Mancinelli during the 1st semester.

Students from LETTERE, FILOSOFIA E COMUNICAZIONE, TURISMO and other Degrees [other than LINGUE] with a 6- or 12-credit exam: F. Rosales, T. Moreno et al. Curso intensivo A1-B1 + Cuaderno de Ejercicios]. *** For the ORAL EXAM, students from LETTERE, FILOSOFIA E COMUNICAZIONE and other Degrees with a 6-credit exam will have to read 1 MANDATORY BOOK, to be chosen between: 1) Laura Esquivel, “A Lupita le gustaba planchar”; 2) Isabel Allende, “La ciudad de las bestias”. Such text is recommended, but not mandatory, for attending students of the module.

The module of SPANISH LANGUAGE TRAINING aims at practising and improving passive and active linguistic skills [reading, listening, writing and speaking]. Particularly, the aim is the acquisition of basic knowledge and competences that permit students to comprehend and produce oral and written texts, and to properly use Spanish grammar according to CEFR B1 level. *** The module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM aims at providing basic knowledge regarding the formal characteristics of Tourism’s texts and specific vocabulary, as well as tools for the elaboration in Spanish language of original material related to this field.

SPANISH LANGUAGE TRAINING: practical activities, grammar exercises, dictation exercises, writing activities, reading comprehension and conversation. *** SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM: lectures and seminars with students participation.

Lectures and course contents of group D are only for students from LETTERE, FILOSOFIA E COMUNICAZIONE, TURISMO and other Degrees other than LINGUE. Students from LINGUE must, instead, follow lectures and course contents of groups A, B or C. *** The module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM will be held during the 1st semester, with a specific timetable. *** Students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the Staff Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti, consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities. For students from LETTERE, FILOSOFIA E COMUNICAZIONE and other Degrees [other than LINGUE] with a 6-credit exam the acquisition of the course’s theoretical contents and competences will be assessed through the following mandatory exams: 1) WRITTEN TEST on Spanish grammar and civilization [duration: 3 hours], which consists of approximately 5-10 grammar exercises [multiple choice, filling the gap, etc.] and 1 written composition [around 150 words]; 2) ORAL EXAM, aimed at assessing the acquisition of linguistic knowledge and communicative competences [CEFR B1 level] starting from the mandatory readings. Students must take their own book to the exam, plain and with no notes on it. *** For students from TURISMO and other Degrees with a 12-credit exam, the acquisition of the course’s theoretical contents and competences will be assessed through the following mandatory exams: 1) WRITTEN TEST on Spanish grammar and civilization [duration: 3 hours], which consists of approximately 5-10 grammar exercises [multiple choice, filling the gap, etc.] and 1 written composition [around 150 words]; 2) ORAL EXAM, aimed at assessing the acquisition of both linguistic knowledge and communicative competences [CEFR B1 level], and the contents of Iberian culture included in Laura Pierozzi e Sonia Campos Cabrero [3ª ed., con espansione online], “Una vuelta por la cultura hispana”, Zanichelli [selection of pages]; 3) FLYER to be submitted when and how indicated by the Professor on DIR page of the module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM. Such flyer, written entirely in Spanish, will consist in a tourism brochure [front/back] related to the student’s town/city/region or to another place to be agreed with the Professor. *** EVALUATION CRITERIA: Students will pass if they answer correctly to at least 60% of the grammar exercises and prove, in the written composition, a correct use of verb tenses, discourse markers, etc., and a good grammaticality of the writing [according to CEFR B1 level]. The oral exam will be passed if the student is able to convey personal information and opinions on everyday, domestic and common topics [also related to the mandatory readings], using grammarly correct forms. To pass the oral exam and the flyer elaboration, students from TURISMO and other Degrees with a 12-credit exam must show to have acquired the theoretical and practical contents of the module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM. *** The final mark is based on the average of the grades of the written and the oral exams. To pass the whole exam, students must reach the minimum grade [18/30] in both its parts. *** LEARNING SUPERVISION IN ITINERE: In-class and at-home tests on the course topics; grammar tests [with exercises], compositions, dictations, oral comprehensions and translation.

SPANISH LANGUAGE TRAINING [96 hours, held by native-speaker lecturers]: Spanish grammar and Iberian civilization. Grammar contents: definite and indefinite articles; nouns and adjectives [morphology]; use of ser, estar, haber and tener; adjectives and possessive, demonstrative and numeral pronouns; the comparison; all the times of the indicative of the regular and irregular verbs; subjunctive present; use of the most frequent prepositions; personal and impersonal forms of obligation; regular past participles and morphology of the gerund; regular and irregular past participles; affirmative and negative imperative of the regular and irregular verbs. *** SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM: Tourism texts; Tourism basic vocabulary in Spanish; main characteristics of Spanish language for Tourism.

By the end of the course, students will know: 1) Spanish grammar and Iberian civilization, according to CEFR B1 level; 2) the phonological and orthographic system of Spanish language. Moreover, they will be able to: 1) comprehend and produce written and oral texts in Spanish according to its phonological and orthographic rules; 2) use basic morphological and syntactic elements in a proper way and according to CEFR B1 level; 3) recognise and judge linguistic and extra-linguistic data needed for the interlinguistic communication; 4) communicate in activities which require a personal information and opinion exchange on domestic and common topics; 5) describe in a grammatically correct Spanish issues and aspects of their own background or everyday life, and express immediate needs or briefly share personal experiences and opinions. *** Module of SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR TOURISM: students will also know the main linguistic, pragmatic and discourse characteristics of Spanish for Tourism [vocabulary, morphosyntax, etc.], and will be able to produce original tourism material in Spanish language.
