Course Contents
The course is structured in two main parts. The first part presents an overview of the different phases of the Project Management approach, and in particular of the Project Cycle Management. The second part offers a cognitive-methodological reference that is necessary to set up, to program and to plan the local tourism development through projects and initiatives of destination management and territorial marketing.

Students who participate in the exercises carried out during the course and who take part in at least 75% of the lessons (36 hours) are considered to be attending.
Those who are unable to attend must follow the program as non-attenders.
Learning Outcomes
The course aims at providing an overview of the necessary methodologies, tools and practices to design, plan and manage initiatives and suitable projects for the development and promotion of touristic destinations, from both public and private point of view, using also examples and case studies.
In particular, the attention will be focused on the issues of project management, destination management and the needed supporting knowledge. The ultimate goal is to enable students to manage the entire life cycle of a tourism development project in order to operate effectively in companies or public entities involved in the promotion and management of tourism.

Teaching Methods
The teaching will be conducted through lectures, held by the teacher or by experts, and through exercises and group discussions.

1) Written exam (open-ended questions) on the material included in the program reserved to attending students.
2) Oral presentation of the group exercise

NON ATTENDING STUDENTS

Detailed Syllabus
The course is structured as follows:
- the emergencce of the tourism project
- the project cycle
- destination management
- trends and critical issues of contemporary tourism
- analysis of experiences and case studies.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of basic theoretical and methodological concepts of tourism planning management. Ability to understand and contextualize the relationship between geographical dimension and tourism. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to identify and develop the territorial components for project of creation/enhancement of tourism products/destinations. Autonomy of evaluation: ability to analyze territorial contexts and set up projects. Communication skills: ability to communicate and present a tourism project of territorial/product development. Learning / studying skills: ability to find and access to additional bibliographic and data sources. Ability to combine theoretical and methodological concepts with the direct observation of tourist and territorial data.
