Obiettivi formativi
PUBLIC HEALTH AND HUMANITARIAN CRISES

The course aims:
• to introduce participants to key epidemiological concepts and methods relevant to humanitarian crises in resource-limited settings
• to improve their capacity to identify and interpret health and context-relevant data for defining health priorities, and communicating them effectively to decision-makers

CLIMATE CHANGE AND HEALTH
The course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of how climate change affects health. Objectives include knowledge of the main mechanisms through which climate change affects health, and how to make healthcare systems more resilient to the effects of climate change.
Prerequisiti
PUBLIC HEALTH AND HUMANITARIAN CRISES
Principles of humanitarian action. Definitions of emergencies, disasters, humanitarian crises. Understanding of the structure of the humanitarian system.

Metodi didattici
PUBLIC HEALTH AND HUMANITARIAN CRISES
The module uses a combination of lectures, short exercises and a simulation. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the training sessions.

- What Climate Change is and how it affects health. Impacts of climate change from a life course perspective
- Extreme weather event associated to climate change and their effects on health. The role of extreme temperatures, wildfires, floods and storms
-water-borne and vector-borne diseases associated to climate change
- Mental health and climate change
- effects of climate change on food, nutrition, migrations and displacements
- Pathways to a Healthy Net Zero Future. The role of co-benefits in health policies
- Sustainable healthcare. Building Health Systems’ Resilience to Climate Change
- Climate Justice. The unequal impacts of climate change on the health of marginalized or otherwise vulnerable populations

At the end of the course the students will be:
• knowledgeable about key issues of public health in humanitarian crises
• be able to define the role of public health in humanitarian crises and identify key health indicators
• be able to describe principles and best practice of key functions of public health in humanitarian crises

understand the principles of the complex relation between climate change and health.
know the most important mechanisms through which climate change affects health.
understand the basic principles of sustainable healthcare
know the basics of climate justice related to the health domain.
use basic epidemiological measures to evaluate climate-related health outcomes in a population
