The course will consider the development of the political thought in the contemporary age, by focusing on specific topics: a) democracy; b) socialist, progressive and critical thought; c) the main theories of IR and European integration; d) the debate about globalization; e) ecology and digital revolution.

The students will examine the historical and ideal roots of the main political issue of our time.

Good knowledge of the general history of political thought.

The course will be mainly organized on the basis of traditional lessons by the teacher, but it will also offer exercises and seminars. Attendance is suggested.

The teacher will discuss with the students the opportunity of programming an intermediate written test.

The final exam will be oral.
Evaluation criteria:
- 18-22: basic understanding of the texts;
- 23-26: good understanding of the texts and oral exposure;
- 27-30: excellent understanding of the texts, oral exposure and critical review of content.

The course will consider the development of the political thought in the contemporary age, by focusing on specific topics: 1) democracy; 2) Rawls and the theory of justice; 3) liberal and democratic socialism; 4) anticolonial thought; 5) 1968 and critical thought; 6) women's thought; 7) Foucault and biopolitics; 8) war and peace; 9) Europeanism and Community integration; 10) neoliberalis,; 11) globalization and its critics; 12) nationalism, populism and sovereignism; 13) ecological thought; 14) digital revolution.
Integration of gender dimension: as point 6 indicates, the course will dedicate a lesson the womens' and gender political thought, by presenting their main figures and theories.

The students will acquire the capacity of analysing the debates about demcoracy, globalization, social justice, war and peace, environmental crisis, digital transformations.
