The course introduces the main theories and methods of social research and is divided into four parts. The first part is dedicated to the main paradigm of social research and the ontological, epistemological and methodological issues. We will also introduce the typical scheme of a social research design. The second part is devoted to qualitative research and methods. The third part deals with quantitative research and methods. The last part is dedicated to the activity of the research design group.

The course is organised in frontal lessons and group activities. Frequency is not compulsory but strongly recommended.

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.

The final text is a written examination designed to assess the student’s theoretical and practical understanding of the discipline. It is comprised of three open-ended questions and five closed-ended questions, with a duration of 60 minutes.

For attending students, there will be an opportunity to participate in a practice simulation of research design construction, which can replace the three written examination open-ended questions.
