The course aims to present the theoretical and empirical tools of the discipline that allow to read and analyze the complex system of interaction between the individual and society, in the context of the transition from traditional to modern and postmodern society.
After presenting the founding principles of sociology, the main fields of investigation of the discipline will be analyzed, underlining the different theoretical perspectives and the main empirical evidences emerged in the various research strands.

The course is organized in frontal lessons. Frequency is not compulsory but it’s strongly recommended

The final test, written and lasting 90 minutes, will be aimed at verifying the student's ability to orient himself among the various theoretical and conceptual aspects of the discipline and will contain 5 "open questions"

-Geroge Simmel

Part three:
-social and gender inequalities (integration of gender dimension)
-deviance and social control
-education and instruction
-language and communication
-economy and society

Part Four:
- birth and development of the welfare state
- social policies
-welfare systems in market economy countries

Acquisition of the theoretical and conceptual knowledge of the discipline and correlated ability of critical reading of contemporary social phenomena
