Learning Outcomes
To be able and autonomous on the description of statistical data;
Understand the basic terms (population, sample, variable, etc.);
Calculation and presentation of frequency distributions;
Calculation of measures of central tendency and measures of variability;
Understand the fundamentals of event probability assessment.
In summary, we intend to provide the necessary basis to be able:
- to read scientific articles of nursing interest;
- to introduce simple data series.

Additional Information
Students with disabilities, DSA, BES, once they have contacted the University Staff, can contact the teacher in charge of the course in relation to the declination of the exam methods, regarding the teaching aspects.
Assessment Methods
The exam will consist in a written test, based from the summary of a scientific paper, translated into Italian, and complete with tables. The test will include 38 closed-ended questions: 7 Epidemiology and EBP, 12 Nursing Research Methodology and EBN, 7 Statistics, 12 Informatics. Type of questions, may include:
- checkboxes (more than one answer can be correct),
- true/false,
- of completion with omitted answers,
- of association.
In order to pass the test, 60% of the questions must be answered correctly. The 90-minute test will be processed and delivered via the DIR Examination system.
To achieve a 30/30 cum laude score, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all topics covered in the course.
No penalization will be applied for incorrect/omitted. No oral tests will be held.
Detailed Syllabus
Quantitative and qualitative variables, frequency indexes; Qualitative and quantitative data represented in tables; Measures of central tendency: mean, median e modal values; Measures of variability: standard deviation, coefficient of variation, range and percentile; Basic introduction of sample and population; Probability: normal distribution – basic concepts. Introduction to hypothesis testing, comparison of averages and comparison of proportions.

-to define different types of variable; - to describe different types of descriptive index; - to define different hypothesis tests;
