Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the structure and nomenclature (IUPAC and trivial names) of organic molecules ad functional groups. Ability to analyse complex molecules recognising functional groups and structural residues.
Knowledge of the stereochemistry of organic compounds, especially stereocenters (R/S).identification and analysis of the various stereogenic centers in the molecule

Assessment Methods
Written test with 5 exercises of organic chemistry (IUPAC nomenclature (2 exercises), natural substance, stereochemistry, functional groups)
part 2: Written test with organic chemistry exercises, which will evaluate the knowledge of the reactivity of various functional groups analyzed during the course and the student's ability to apply this knowledge led to the synthesis of target molecules.
Detailed Syllabus
CFU 1 Basic concepts of chemistry: atoms, molecules, chemical bonds, hybridisation, molecular structure, resonance, electronegativity. CFU 2 Radicals and functional groups: definition and structures. CFU 3 Nomenclature part 1. IUPAC Nomenclature. Basic concepts, chains, ring, bicyclic systems. CFU 4 Stereochemistry. Stereoisomerism in cyclic systems (cis-trans). Stereoisomerism of alkenes (E-Z). CFU 5 Nomenclature part 2. Arenes, heterocyclic systems, natural products.
part 2: CFU 1
Symmetry: elements and operations. Chirality. CIP rules and R/S descriptors. Enantiomers and diastereomers. Resolution of stereoisomers. Optical activity and enantiomeric excess. Exercises.
CFU 2-7
Chemical reactions: classification, chemical metrics, atom mapping, stoichiometry of organic reactions.

- Alkanes and cycloalkanes
- Alkenes, dienes and alkynes
- Alogenoalkanes and organometallic reagents (Mg, Li)
- Alcohols, ethers, thiols and thioeters

Introduction on the reactivity of natural products: lipids, aminoacids, carbohydrates. Terpenes and isoprenic rule. Exercises.

the preliminary knowledge to address the course of organic chemistry 2, and to deepen the chemical characteristics of the main functional groups of organic molecules
part 2: The student is able to apply the concepts learned during frontal lessons, in synthetic processes of molecules of pharmaceutical importance
