Introduce students to the basics of Sociology. Provide the conceptual and methodological tools organized into key words (body, communication, organization, culture, pregnancy, death, disease) through which to access the analysis of the complex intertwining between health and society

The exam consists of a written test on Sociology topics taught in class, with particular reference to the Sociology of Health topics addressed during the second part of the lessons. The student must demonstrate that they have assimilated the basic notions of Sociology

• Part 1: Introduction - The foundations of Sociology.

- Introduction to the discipline through a brief historical-social excursus.
- Social facts and solidarity: from Durkheim to Weber.
- Structuralism and Functionalism.
- Symbolic interactionism and methodological individualism.

• Part 2: Deepening of Sociology of Health.

- Health, disease, medicine: a sociological look.
- The cultures of health.
- The social representation of the body and its reading as a text.
- Individual and society in the face of death.
- Pregnancy and childbirth in sociology.

At the end of the course, each student must have acquired the theoretical skills and the perspectives of sociological vision useful for undertaking a profession in the health field.
