The integrated course addresses various topics related to functional tissue engineering with clinical references where possible.

To gather knowledge on the basic function of the main tissues, together with their tissue repair processes and regeneration mechanisms.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of microscopic and macroscopic anatomy of the human body. Elements of cell culture

Assessment Methods
Learning assessment is conducted through four specific tests for each integrated course. All four subjects are assessed in the same exam session, and a passing grade in all four modules is required to pass the exam. All tests are structured with multiple-choice and open-ended questions. The specific needs of students with proven learning disabilities are taken into account.

Functional Tissue Engineering: The lessons cover the following topics: - The heart: functional anatomy and functional tissue engineering approaches - Heart valves: functional anatomy and functional tissue engineering approaches - Blood vessels: functional anatomy and functional tissue engineering approaches - oral cavity and tooth tissue engineering - joints and cartilage: functional anatomy and functional tissue engineering approaches - respiratory system: functional anatomy and functional tissue engineering approaches Tissue Engineering in Dermatology: - Anatomy of the skin and appendages; - Fundamentals of surgery in skin repair; - Wound healing; - Photoinduced and chrono-induced skin damage; - Cell cultures (monolayer and 3D); - Skin substitutes and skin equivalents; - Spheroids and organoids; - stem cells used in dermatological field; - Wnt pathway and hair appendages; - PRP (Plasma-rich platelet) in hair diseases;
Expected Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire the critical ability to evaluate different approaches to regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, studying the most innovative approaches to several clinical problems.
