A strong command of the English language has become an essential skill for all professionals. For this reason, there is a need to offer a practical and easy-to-learn English course aimed at improving English communication skills (e.g., listening, speaking, reading and writing). The acquisition of these new language skills will enable students to communicate effectively in spoken and written English once they join the workforce in Italy or abroad.

The aims, objectives and functions are those recommended to attain a B2 competence level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). At the end of the course, students will be able to manage most situations likely to arise while traveling and/or working where the English language is spoken. In addition, the student will be able to provide reasons and explanations for his/her plans or opinions. Students will also improve their pronunciation and listening comprehension skills. The overall goal of the course is to provide students with the tools to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of English and their ability to apply this knowledge independently in the work environment.

The attainment of a B1 (intermediate) competence level is highly recommended and can be accomplished by taking the English Placement Test and supplemental A2 and B1 courses on the Macmillan Education platform which is available on the Macmillan Education platform. International English certifications are accepted according to the criteria established by the CLUPO Linguistic Commission.

Lectures and class activities.

It is recommended that all students take the computerized English Placement Test. This placement test does NOT replace the English exam, even in the event that one has achieved a level > B2. The objective of the entry test is verification of the level of one's English proficiency according to the international CEFR parameters. It is highly recommended that students with an A1 (elementary) or A2 (pre-intermediate) level take the A1 to A2 and A2 to B1 supplementary courses on the Macmillan Education platform. This will allow them to acquire the linguistic skills necessary to better follow the English course in their degree plan (B2-upper-intermediate).

The final exam will assess English language skills. The test will be based on the skills acquired using the textbook and material covered in class. The questions will focus on reading comprehension, use of English, and listening. The exam will be calibrated on a B2 level (upper-intermediate) according to CEFR parameters. Grades will be Pass/Fail.

With their new language skills, students will be able to express themselves easily and spontaneously in oral communication in English and in a clear and detailed manner in written communications. As a result of this course, students will strengthen their knowledge and understanding of English (B2 upper-intermediate level) and their ability to apply this knowledge independently in the workplace.
