Course Contents
Feature of the fungal groups and their biological significance.
The mayor practical methods of isolating and identifying fungi from
natural substrates.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide the main morphological and metabolic
pathways of fungi and to highlight the wide range of activities of these
organisms and their role in the environment. Develop systematic
recognition skills.
Prerequisites
Basics of general biology and mycology.
Teaching Methods
Lectures in which the exposition of the topics is accompanied by
illustrative material and diagrams elaborated by the teacher and in part
derived from scientiphic articles. Laboratory experiences: isolation and
recognition of fungal taxa.
Additional Information
Learning control: discussion of topics during lectures, practice in the
laboratory.

Assessment Methods
Oral examination to verify the level of knowledge and understanding
of the course content and to assess the autonomy of judgement, the
ability to learn
and communication skills. Questions regarding the fungal topics and
recognition of fungal taxa. The overall evaluation will take account of
scores achieved in the individual questions and in the exposure of an
essey on the experience of laboratory or scientific article agreed during
the course. If the students have acquired and know how to properly use
the formal terminology are considered sufficient, if they extensively
answer all the questions and demonstrating connection skills they reach
excellence.
Detailed Syllabus
An overview of systematics, biology and ecology of fungi. Laboratory
techniques and methods for the isolation of fungi from various matrices.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Acquisition of Mycology knowledge to understand the development of
fungal biology. Ability to apply the knowledge in the laboratory to isolate
and identify the most common fungi. Ability to organize and to talk
critically about the acquired knowledge in order to carry out an
experiment in a mycology laboratory.. The student should also have
knowledge and competence of correct terminology, and ability to develop
critical thinking. Ability to use the teaching material provided for a critical
and functional study of mycological topics. Ability to analyze critically and
to update themselves by reading scientific articles and reviews on the
mycological topics.
