Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide updated knowledge in some aspects of the comparative physiology of the digestive system; the aspects between structure and function of the various organs in the different animals will be treated with hints on the evolutionary aspects that have led to the different solutions adopted.

Assessment Methods
The exam consists of an oral exam only. The oral exam has the dual purpose of verifying the level of knowledge and understanding of the contents of the course and of assessing independent judgement, learning ability and communication skills.
To pass the test, the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of at least the fundamental concepts and the most important results relating to them; moreover, adequately stimulated, he must demonstrate his ability to recognize the mistakes made and therefore identify the correct ways; finally, he must be able to explain the arguments in an understandable way. To achieve sufficiency, it is necessary to know the basics of digestive processes in the animal world and to be able to demonstrate the fields of use of the discipline.
To achieve a high grade, the student must demonstrate independent judgment and a critical sense of the topics covered, exposing his conclusions in a clear and logical way.
The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths (minimum mark 18).
Detailed Syllabus
Nutrition, digestion and absorption. General information on the digestive system. Digestion and absorption of nutrients and water. Comparison of digestive systems. Digestion and absorption in monogastric and polygastric mammals. Gastrointestinal secretion and its regulation. During the lessons, whenever the opportunity arises, we will focus on gender-related issues.
Expected Learning Outcomes
The course encourages students to develop a cross-disciplinary approach to their studies. Knowledge and understanding: A logical, rather than purely memorization-based, approach will be encouraged for the assimilation of topics. Applying knowledge and understanding: By the end of the course, students should be able to achieve a deductive reasoning approach. Communication skills: Students will be able to use appropriate scientific vocabulary and describe scientific topics with a logical and rational approach. Learning skills: Students will be able to use course materials for a critical and reasoned study.
