Course Contents
Physical phenomena and physical quantities used for medical diagnostics. Medical imaging: principles and characteristics. Diagnostics based on X-rays. Computed tomography (CT). Image analysis and reconstruction techniques. Nuclear medicine: radionuclides and detection techniques. Radiation detectors. Magnetic resonance: principles and characteristics. Conventional radiotherapy and hadrontherapy: techniques and therapeutic plans.
Learning Outcomes
To provide a solid foundation on the basic principles of the main diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy techniques. Knowing how to compare and select the most appropriate techniques both in the diagnostic and therapeutic fields and in the verification of treatments.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding:
Knowledge of the basic physical principles of imaging in the medical field, with the use of ionising and non-ionising radiations.
General knowledge of the tools used, their characteristics and field of use.
Knowledge of the relevant physical quantities and basic principles and methods used to optimise the study of bioimages.

- Applying knowledge and understanding:
Application of imaging tools both in the diagnostic field and in therapy, treatment and verification plans in radiotherapy.

- Learning skills:
The student will have to acquire a certain mastery of the basic concepts in order to be able to go deeper in the subject.
