Argumentative writing course.

1) Knowledge of the grammatical rules of Italian language (spelling, syntax, sequence of tense); 2) Summary and argumentative writing skills; 3) Presentation skills and vocabulary.

No background knowledge is required. The course, in fact, aims to fill preexisting gaps in Italian language knowledge.

Classes; reading and discussion groups (selected texts will be provided); writing exercises.

The program is the same for attending and non-attending students. Given the nature and purpose of the course, however, in-person attendance is highly recommended. All PowerPoint presentations from classes, together with the additional literature, will be made available on the e-learning platform DIR. Written exam (60-90 minutes) consisting of a summary and a critical commentary of a text. Students will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1) Knowledge of Italian grammar (14/30); 2) Summary and argumentative writing skills (8/30); 3) Presentation skills and vocabulary (8/30).

The course aims to fill preexisting gaps in Italian language knowledge, strengthening grammatical, expository, and argumentative skills that are essential for university study. The following goals will be addressed: 1) Good knowledge of the grammatical rules of Italian language (spelling, syntax, sequence of tense); 2) Summary and argumentative writing skills; 3) Presentation skills and vocabulary. --- The course will cover the following topics: 1) The text: form and content; 2) The written text; 3) Summary, paraphrase, and quoting; 4) Writing a dissertation; 5) Writing an essay (article, chapter, monograph).

BASIC LEVEL: 1) Good knowledge of the grammatical rules of Italian language (spelling, syntax, sequence of tense); 2) Satisfactory summary and argumentative writing skills; 3) Satisfactory presentation skills and vocabulary. ADVANCED LEVEL: 1) In-depth knowledge of the grammatical rules of Italian language (spelling, syntax, sequence of tense); 2) Good or excellent summary and argumentative writing skills; 3) Good or excellent presentation skills and vocabulary.
