The Frontiers of Citizenship This course will present the main models of democratic citizenship, focusing in particular on its boundaries. Consideration will be given to what it means to be a citizen and to whom this status should be accorded. Particular attention will be paid to the political dimension of citizenship.

The course aims at (knowledge and understanding): a basic knowledge of the main topics on theories of citizenship; 2. (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): the ability to critically discuss the texts taken into consideration; 3. At a more advanced level, the course aims to enable the acquisition of: (knowledge and understanding): an in-depth knowledge of the main arguments on the theories of citizenship; 2. (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): an advanced ability to reconstruct the arguments of the authors and texts analysed in a precise and thorough manner; 3. (communication skills): an excellent ability to present the knowledge acquired in a clear and correct manner, showing full command of terminology and vocabulary; 5. (learning skills): an excellent ability to analyse texts and to link the topics discussed, demonstrating awareness of the issues involved in interpreting the theoretical debates relating to the theories of citizenship.

Skills acquired in the Bachelor's degree: 1. Basic knowledge of political theory/science/doctrines. 2.Ability to set out clearly and correctly both the texts studied and one's own thoughts in oral and written interventions

The course will be characterised by seminar lectures. One student will give a five-minute introduction to the discussion and then everyone will participate in the debate moderated by the lecturer. At the end of each meeting the lecturer will pose questions that the students will practise answering as a stimulus for the collective discussion the next time. A short text will be written as an exercise for the presentation of the final paper and a final oral presentation will be given. At the beginning of the course, all teaching materials will be provided by the lecturer on the DIR platform.

Those who are unable to attend the course regularly will have to write a paper to be agreed with the teacher and take an oral interview on the texts discussed in class Computer document signed with a digital signature pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 82/2005 and subsequent amendments and additions. Learning will be verified by: 1. participation in class discussion (30%) 2. final paper of 4,000 words to be handed in within two weeks of the end of the course, on a topic agreed with the lecturer (70%). The grade is expressed in thirtieths and the evaluation is based on the following parameters: 1) knowledge and understanding of the main topics covered: 18 points out of 30 (sufficiency); 2) ability to set out clearly and correctly the knowledge acquired: 6 points out of 30; 3) ability to establish links between the topics covered and to explore them critically and with independent judgement: 6 points out of 30.

In order to attain knowledge and corresponding competences at the basic level, students should demonstrate that they (knowledge and understanding): having acquired a good knowledge of the debate on theories of citizenship; 2. (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): being able to recognise the main lines of argument and the conceptual structure of the texts and theories analysed; 3. For the attainment of an advanced level one must demonstrate: (knowledge and understanding): having acquired a thorough knowledge of the debate on theories of citizenship; 2. (ability to apply knowledge and understanding): being able to reconstruct the theoretical-political debates in a precise and thorough manner and recognise the different methodologies and interpretative perspectives adopted; 3. (communication skills): to be able to present the knowledge acquired in a clear and correct manner, showing full command of the terminology and vocabulary of the discipline; 5. (learning ability): to have acquired a good ability to analyse texts and to link the topics dealt with, demonstrating awareness of the problems connected with the interpretation of texts and the ability to carry out individual in-depth studies.
