The course will focus on the European Union in the age of Euroscepticism and sovereignism, with particular reference to the role the migration issue plays within the national-sovereignist political discourse.

The teacher will provide the students with some materials about the general introduction to EU, the European migration policy and the concepts of Euroscepticism and Sovereignism.
The students will have to focus on a specific book, choosing among the books presented during the lessons:

2. M. Gervasoni, La rivoluzione sovranista, Giubilei Regnani 2019;
3. G. Valditara, Sovranismo, Book Time 2017;

5. I. Krastev, Gli ultimi giorni dell'Unione, LUISS, 2019;
6. E. Balibar, Crisi e fine dell'Europa?, Bollati Boringhieri 2016

The analysis and the discussion on the contemporary debate on the European integration and in particular on the criticism to the EU by nationalist/sovereignist intellectuals and movements.

Good knowledge of the basic historical and political concepts.

Classical lessons and seminars.

The teacher will discuss with the students about a possibile written paper they will present during the exam.

modalities, concerning academic aspects.

The final exam will be oral. Evaluation criteria:
- 18-22: basic understanding of the texts;
- 23-26: good understanding of the texts and oral exposure;
- 27-30: excellent understanding of the texts, oral exposure and critical review of content.

In the first part, the course will focus on:
- the historical and political introduction to the EU;
- the presentation of the European migration policy, of its problems and its perspectives;
- the general discussion about the Eurosceptic and sovereignist thought.
In the second part, the course will examine a series of books concerning the topic of national sovereignism and its connection with migration.

The learning of the main concepts and tools to interpretate the public discourse on Europe, national State, globalization and migration.
