Spanish linguistics and philology

The course aims to improve Spanish language skills, and refine its use for academic and professional purposes, particularly philological.
This course aims to provide students with a overwiev of the basic themes and issues in Spanish Linguistics and Philology (Textual criticism).
It intends to favor, as a second objective, the awareness of the relevance of linguistic data in the reconstruction of the critical text
From the basic level of simple knowledge and application of specific terminology, analytical tools and notions acquired in the classroom, in the analysis of texts of different nature; up to the knowledge and fully aware application of the methods and tools offered, on different text types.

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level, C1) knowledge of general linguistics and Spanish linguistics

Lectures, seminar lessons with analysis of examples; the theacher will provide exemplary materials on the DIR

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

Written examination (two hours): two open-ended questions, aimed at assessing the student's ability to link linguistic data and the philological method; and an analysis of a philological example (application of the philological criteria starting from the linguistic phenomena involved).
A paper will be assessed as excellent if it demonstrates: an organic and in-depth vision of the philological and linguistic themes addressed in the course; developed capacity for analysis and synthesis; excellent mastery of specific vocabulary and linguistic concepts; capacity for theoretical elaboration through the rich use of relevant examples.
A paper will be assessed as fair if it demonstrates: an only sometimes mechanical knowledge of the subject; appropriate and correct language; the ability to analyse and synthesise; a good use of exemplification in relation to a theoretical exposition, which considers the various aspects of the philology-linguistics relationship.
A test will be assessed as sufficient if it demonstrates: basic knowledge of the programme (notions and method), often expressed in mnemonic form, but with an awareness of linguistic and philological methodology; basic and correct use of terminology; presentation of adequate examples in the context of the treatment.
A paper that demonstrates at least one of the following traits will be graded as insufficient: important educational gaps; erroneous learning of notions/concepts or methodology; inappropriate language; the pure reproduction/listing of notions or definitions, lacking the required conceptual links; lack of orientation within the topic examined; scarcity, absence or incorrect use of examples.

1. Problems of the transmission of texts (as true 'linguistic tissues'); 2. Variants and errors: genesis and transmission (in general and in the Castilian language); 3. the problem of textual reconstruction starting from linguistic data 4. pre-scientific methods and the common error-method; 5. the genealogy of the textual tradition; 6. the critical edition of Iberian texts and linguistics (apparatus, linguistic study, criteria for presenting the critical text).

KNOWLEDGE
- Develop the theoretical knowledge of the philological discipline, becoming familiar with the linguistic phenomena of the Iberian context
SKILLS
-To recognize and classify theoretically presented phenomena in the proposed and analyzed documents
- Knowing how to define and illustrate, by means of exemplification, the concepts discussed in class.
- Knowing how to prepare a linguistic-philological (basic) analysis autonomously, on new examples, starting from the theoretical basis acquired
TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
- Know how to describe the main phenomena in a clear and circumstantial manner, using the appropriate terminology in an appropriate manner.
- Know how to deepen the topics on the specific manual and on the essays
- Knowing how to perform bibliographic research independently, starting from the suggestions received in class
