Course Contents
The module introduces students to several key concepts of modern economics like the phenomenon of economic growth; business and consumer choices; the modus operandi of markets and the business cycle; the labour market and unemployement; the aggregate demand; the mix of fiscal and monetary policies.

Teaching Methods
As many as 60 hours of face to face lectures (didattica erogative) and seminars (didattica interattiva). Students are expected to attend all classes and seminars.

Assessment Methods
One-hour unseen written exam to be held at the end of the course, incuding 10 written multiple choice questions.
Detailed Syllabus
The capitalist revolution,
technical progress, demography and economic growth,
scarcity, labour and choice
social interactions,
the firms: owners, managers, employees and customers,
supply, demand and competitive markets,
market power and imperfect competition,
the labour market: wages, profits and unemployment,
the commercial banks, money and credit markets,
income, prices and market dynamics,
economic fluctuations and unemployment, the Okun's Law,
unemployment and fiscal policy, employment rate and gender gap, active labor market policies,
aggregate consumption (C), public expenditure (G), business investment (I), aggregate demand (AD), aggregate demand as AD=C+I+G, output (Y), the model Y=AD, prices and inflation, Philips Curve: Unemployment and inflation, fiscal policies, the central bank and its official policy rate, monetary policy, channels of transmission of monetary policies, business cycle and counter-cyclical fiscal and monetary policies.
Expected Learning Outcomes
After completion of the module, students will be able to make sense of the modus operandi of modern market economies, both from the micro and macro perspective.
