Course Contents
The health effects of climate change. How the determinants of health and disease are identified and measured. The etiopathogenesis of the main communicable and non-communicable diseases and the related risk factors in relation to climate change. The principles of demography, of basic epidemiology applied to the health effects of climate change. The main public health policies for the mitigation of the health effects of climate change.

Learning Outcomes
To apply Epidemiology and Public Health techniques in the study of the health effects of climate change: in particular, to identify, to measure the main risk factors and to select the main interventions to prevent and / or mitigate the health effects of climate change.

To define the state of health and disease. To define the main communicable and non-communicable diseases and the related risk factors. To define the building blocks of descriptive and analytical epidemiology. To define the relation of occurrence (determinant, confounding, effect modifier). To calculate and interpret crude rates, specific rates, standardized rates and the main demographic and epidemiological measures, global burden of disease (GBD). To calculate and interpret the main measures of frequency (prevalence, incidence), of association (relative risk, odds ratio, attributable risks). To describe the main models of epidemiological studies and their context of application to the study of climate change on health. To describe and interpret the main health effects of climate change (overheating, flood and drought, air pollution, El Nino, allergens). To describe the main policies to prevent and / or mitigate the main health effects of climate change.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to apply the basic elements of epidemiology to the study of the impact of climate change on human health and to research, select and use Public Health interventions capable of minimizing this impact.
