Knowledge and understanding: - Acquire a general understanding of the definition and evolution of global health - Familiarise oneself with the main central themes of global health - Gain an overall understanding of the concept of the global burden of disease and the spread of disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide - Know, at an introductory level, the mechanisms through which climate change affects health and the ways in which health systems can develop resilience - Recognise the health implications of floods Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: - Develop the ability to distinguish global health from related disciplines - Navigate the acquisition of information on the global burden of disease and on the spread of disasters and humanitarian crises - Acquire a preliminary understanding of the health implications associated with floods

The course includes innovative and integrated teaching methods, including lectures, video recordings, and (a)synchronous online activities to apply the knowledge acquired.

The exam is written and in-person, and consists of a quiz with multiple-choice questions. The final grade is expressed in thirtieths, and to pass the exam, a student must achieve at least 18/30. To pass the exam, students must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of at least the fundamental concepts of the subject. To achieve a passing grade, students must be familiar with the context of global health and public health emergencies, and be able to demonstrate acquisition of the relevant basic notions of global health and public health emergencies. To achieve a high grade, students must demonstrate complete mastery of the topics covered.

Introduction to global health and the main threats; governance and health systems; the global burden of disease, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, injuries, disasters and humanitarian crises; access to care; vulnerable groups. Climate change, extreme weather events, and health impacts; floods: health implications and vulnerability management; sustainability of the health system, pathways to a Healthy Net Zero Future. Integration of the gender dimension: the gender dimension is considered in the analysis of concepts and in the case studies addressed during the course.

Knowledge and understanding: - Be able to describe the definition and historical evolution of global health - Illustrate the central themes of global health - Be able to explain the global burden of disease and the spread of disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide - Be able to recognise and explain the main mechanisms through which climate change influences health and how health systems can enhance their resilience - Be able to describe in detail the health implications of floods Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: - Be able to distinguish global health from other disciplines - Be able to retrieve up-to-date information on the global burden of disease and on the spread of disasters and humanitarian crises - Be able to identify the health implications deriving from floods
