The course aims at providing students with tools to understand the ongoing changes in health policies and the debate in this area, by considering the specific traits of this sector, which is one of the most complex in the economic and political area. In particular, we will highlight how the health sector contributes to the well-being and social cohesion of the population.

STUDENTS ATTENDING THE LECTURES:
presentations in class (50% of the final mark) + written exam (50% of the final mark)

STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING THE LECTURES: written exam (100% of the final mark)

Introduction. Development of Health Economics. - I. How economists think. - II. The motivations for the intervention of the public system to enhance health. - III. Health protection and health policies. - IV. Comparisons of Health Systems. - V. The Italian Health System. - VI. Health Policy.

By the end of the course the students will be able to understand and descrive the functioning of the Health Systems and the main topics of Health Economics.
Oral presentations will help students to develop their presentational skills.
