The course will provide the tools to understand the management of hematological patients in the outpatient setting, with a particular focus on the complexities related to hematological neoplasms, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapies, new biological therapies, precision medicine and palliative care. The role of health actors interacting with the patient in the outpatient setting will be analyzed.

The learning objective of the course is to render students able to know, interpret and analyse the main hematological topics of the course with a critical attitude, as requested by the Dublin descriptor 3.

The exam, in written form, will consist of multiple-choice questions. Examples of the questions will be presented in class.

A) Health actors involved in outpatient care in patients with blood cancer: caregiver(s) general practitioners, outpatient nurses, patient support organizations; B) Main hematological neoplasms; C) Transplant of hematopoietic stem cells and CAR-T therapies: autologous transplant; allogeneic transplant; transplant and CAR-T complications complications; Graft versus host diseases (GVHD); CRS and neurotoxicity complexity of transplant procedures D) Non-chemotherapeutic regimens. Effucacy, toxicities, compliance issues; E) Palliative care in blood patients.

At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the relevant aspects of the outpatient management of the hematological patient particularly with respect to: i) hematological neoplasms; ii) stem cell transplantation and CAR-T; iii) new non-chemotherapeutic treatments; iv) palliative care in hematoncology.
