At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
describe the concepts of critical area, organizational aspects of the Emergency System
describe the basic elements of the current legislation in Italy, related to the Health Emergency System
describe the concepts and phases of the rescue chain
describe the application of the ABCDE method in the approach to a critical person and apply patient assessment and monitoring on simulated clinical cases
describe the care priorities of a person in critical condition
describe the main systems for monitoring vital functions
plan the care of a patient in critical condition
describe the characteristics of communication/interaction in emergency situations with the patient, relatives, and the team.

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and general pathology. Knowledge of nursing care planning.

Esson with the support of presentations in MS-Power Point format and reference to scientific dissemination websites.
Laboratory activities in groups with simulators, carried out within the teaching complementary teaching.

To support teaching, supplementary teaching activities are planned aimed at acquiring technical-gestural skills.

Regulations related to the Health Emergency System.
Basic principles of critical patient assessment (ABCDE methodology)
Care priorities for patients in conditions of instability/vital criticality.
Description of the organization of territorial emergency systems, Emergency Departments, and Intensive Care Units.
General principles of the rescue chain, territorial and hospital phases, intra- and extra-hospital transport.
BLSD: theory and hands-on practice.
ALS: theory overview with special focus on procedures such as endotracheal intubation, tracheotomy/tracheostomy.
Assessing and managing the need to communicate in critical situations.
Clinical-care planning for patients on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, invasive ventilation (overview), and victims of polytrauma, acute myocardial infarction. Care plans for a person with: headache in the Emergency Room, stroke, epilepsy, syncope, acute poisonings, respiratory failure, acute complications of diabetes mellitus, hypertensive emergencies and urgencies, chest pain and acute kidney failure, person victim of minor trauma, person victim of major trauma.
General concepts of respiratory, circulatory, neurological, renal monitoring and body temperature.

Knowledge of the extra- and intra-hospital emergency healthcare system and understanding of the healthcare logistics approach for hospital and extra-hospital transport.
Knowledge of a systematic approach based on ABCDE assessment and related early treatment.
Ability to apply acquired knowledge in managing a patient in a life-threatening or unstable situation.
Demonstrate communication skills in emergency/urgent situations.
