The objectives of this course are to teach the basic notions for the administration of pharmacological therapy, which have the aim of making the student autonomous in the correct administration of a therapy, in the correct calculation of the dosage, in the correct manipulation and preparation of the form pharmaceutical, in the use of administration devices. As far as the topics covered allow, teaching will be set up in such a way as to stimulate the student's reasoning and ability to deduce.

The course combines interactive lectures integrated with active learning methodologies and slides presentations. Audience response systemswill be used to throughout the course to foster student engagement, encourage partecipation and support formative assessment. Teaching activities will also include individual and groupin-class exercisesdesigned to facilitate the application of theoretical concepts and the development of the competencies s outlined in the course learning objectives.

The exam consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test is made up of clinical cases with multiple choice questions on the scheduled topics, aimed at verifying knowledge and understanding of the disciplines of Neurology, Geriatrics, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Dietetic Sciences and Nursing skills in the pharmacological field. Passing the narrative test gives access to the oral exam in Clinical Nursing in Chronic Care and Disability. The oral test aims to evaluate independent judgement, learning ability, communicative ability in explaining and making connections between topics. The student must be able to autonomously use diagnostic reasoning and critical thinking, using and correlating the knowledge learned, addressing in-depth discussion on specific healthcare aspects relating to two situations of people with disabilities and/or chronic conditions.

Routes of administration: - Materials used for drug administration (needles, venous devices, central devices, infusion set, infusion pump); - Enteral route (oral, sublingual, rectal); - Parenteral route (intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous); - Other non-injective administration routes (nasal, inhalation, skin and mucosal application). Pharmaceutical forms: - Medicines for oral use; - Medicines for cutaneous use; - Medicines to be used by inhalation; - Drugs for topical use and in drops; - Medicines in his ophthalmic; - Medicines for rectal use; - Drugs for vaginal applications; - Pharmaceutical preparations for parenteral use. Solutions and dilutions. Calculation methods for drug dosages: - Basic formulas to calculate the dose to be administered; - Basic formulas to calculate the dose to be administered based on weight Corporeal; - Basic formulas for intravenous drug administration. Enteral drugs - dosage calculation: - Administration of tablets; - Administration of liquid pharmaceutical forms (syrups and solutions in drops). Parenteral drugs - dosage calculation: - Intramuscular administration; - Subcutaneous administration; - Intravenous administration.

At the end of the course, students will know the main routes of administration, pharmaceutical forms, materials and methods for calculating the dosage of drugs to be administered.
