The General Nursing module offers an historical and development perspective of the nursing profession in the Italian and European context. The analysis of certain regulations regarding professional practice and training in Italy is planned.

By the end of the module, students must be able to: 1. Acquire the knowledge to take responsibility and be accountable for one's actions inprofessional practice in accordance with the profile and legal standards of theprofession;2. Use theoretical knowledge derived from nursing. In particular the student must be able to: - Describe the relationship between professionalization and scientific nursing development - Describe general national regulations underlying the nursing profession. - Distinguish nursing roles and skills from those of other health/social operators/professionals; - Understanding the historical development of the nursing professionto comprehend its current professional identity and future directions.

The examination is offered in a single session for the entire NURSING SCIENCES course (Subjects: Clinical Nursing Methodology, General Nursing, Professional Ethics, Moral Philosophy). The exam will consist of a multiple-choice quiz (with only one correct answer) for the subject of Moral Philosophy and an oral exam taken by the candidate before a committee composed of professors of Clinical Nursing Methodology, General Nursing, and Professional Ethics.
Admission to the oral exam is subject to passing 60% of the Moral Philosophy quiz. (15 questions, 60% = 8 questions) The written exam will last 20 minutes.
To pass the oral exam, the student must demonstrate that they have acquired sufficient integrated knowledge and skills in relation to the various topics covered by all disciplines, and the mark will be expressed in thirtieths.
The average of the marks for the MED/45 courses in the oral exam, if sufficient, and the docimological certification of the Moral Philosophy test will determine the final mark for the course. To achieve a mark of 30/30 with honours, students must demonstrate that they have acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.

In-depth exploration of the concept of responsibility and autonomy.

*Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the module students will be able to: - discuss professional principles and logics of the nursing role according to the nursing profile and the regulatory constraints; - to know and describe the evolution of the nursing profession educational system; - describe historically relevant events and persons of the transition from assistance to nursing, both from a historical and sociological and a specific professional point of view; - describe the professionalization process of nursing; - distinguish the nursing role and skills from those of other health professionals and/or workers; - understand and discuss the concepts of: • complexity • person (meaning of autonomy: self-care and self-determination) • health • nursing • need for nursing assistance (personal, social, health and nursing competence)  - understand the intervention contexts of autonomous nursing and in collaboration with other professionals; - understand the references and limits of nursing professional responsibility. *Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: At the end of the module students will be able to: - apply an autonomous role model in the healthcare process, by considering the limits of the other health professions *Autonomy of judgment At the end of the module students will be able to: - adopt responsibility for their work according to the role and according to the regulatory principles of the professional practice and professional training; - take decisions with a professional approach aimed at solving the patient's problems; -decide the contexts, limits, method and tools of professional action according to the learning progression during the internship. *Communication skills At the end of the module, students will be able to:-use appropriate terminology to discuss professional issues and professional identity. *Learning ability:At the end of the module students will be able to: - develop independent learning skills of historical and narrative texts; -define and describe regulation synopses; - hold a conversation about historical and regulatory topics of the nursing profession.
