Learning Outcomes

The course, consisting of 10 hours of lectures with a final exam,

will explore aspects related to the technological evolution

of Computed Tomography equipment, patient dose

and the optimization of clinical acquisition protocols, with particular attention

to the duties and responsibilities of the Medical Radiology Technician. The main issues

related to the evolution of radiological examination methods in

Computed Tomography will also be addressed, such as the use of automatic exposure control

and iterative reconstruction methods, and the results of

quality control programs for Computed Tomography

equipment.

Prerequisites

Basic course in Physics. Knowledge of the basic dosimetric quantities

(dose, effective dose)

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons with pdf presentations provided to the students

Additional Information

Assessment Methods

Written examination. 20 multiple choice questions and 3 free answer

questions.To pass the examination a basic knowledge and understanding

of the topics covered during the lessons is required.

Detailed Syllabus

Lecture 1. Basic principles dof CT technology. Evolution of CT scanners.

Photon counting CT Factors wihch impact on the image quality and on the

patien's dose Lecture 2. Quality controls on CT scanners Lecture 3. Tube

current modulation. Iterative reconstruction in CT Lecture 4. Optimization

of the acquisition protocols based on clinical indication. Lecture 5. CT in

pregnancy and in reproductive age.Pediatric CT.

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the parameters that incluence patient dose and image

quality. Ability to develop an acquisition protocol based on the clinical

indication.
