Course Contents
The course aims to provide students with the methodological tools for the rigorous application of evidence-based guidelines and procedures (EBM/EBN) in the management of critically ill patients. The objective is to develop the ability to integrate international standards and local protocols to ensure patient safety and the effectiveness of advanced care interventions in critical care settings.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will:
Knowledge and understanding: demonstrate knowledge of the main international guidelines (ERC, SIAARTI, Surviving Sepsis Campaign) and understand the processes for developing clinical-care procedures in critical care.
Applying knowledge and understanding: be able to correctly apply advanced life support procedures and monitoring protocols, using validated assessment tools for clinical risk management.
Making judgements: be capable of critically evaluating the applicability of guidelines to specific clinical cases, balancing benefits and risks in emergency situations and considering individual variables, including the gender perspective.
Communication skills: develop skills in technical and protocol-based communication (e.g., SBAR method) within the multidisciplinary team and in the clear transmission of evidence-based clinical decisions.
Learning skills: be able to independently consult scientific databases to retrieve procedural updates and recent guidelines, maintaining a high standard of professional development.

Assessment Methods
The assessment of learning outcomes is conducted in an integrated manner through a single evaluation test, which covers:
Advanced nursing care planning in the critically ill patient
Guidelines and procedures in the management of the critically ill patient
Clinical nutrition in the critically ill patient
Time-dependent pathologies in Cardiology
Interventional Radiology in Emergency and Urgency
Gastroenterological emergencies and urgencies
Time-dependent pathologies in Neurology
The assessment consists of a written exam featuring educational/organizational case studies developed by the course instructors. Each case is associated with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), featuring 4 response options, only one of which is correct.
The questions are designed to evaluate acquired knowledge, applied understanding, and autonomy of judgment.
The number of questions for each module is proportional to the number of ECTS (CFU) credits assigned, based on the criterion of 4 questions per credit, up to a maximum of 12 questions per module. Consequently, the total number of questions varies according to the number of modules within the integrated course. Specifically, for the Integrated Course in Models and Methodologies for Educational Design, Teaching, Clinical Leadership, and Consultancy, the total number of questions will be 32.
Each question is awarded 1 point. The final result is re-scaled to a range of 0 to 32, where:
18 points represents the minimum passing grade (equivalent to 18/30).
31 or 32 points represents the maximum grade (30/30 cum laude).
The exam will be duration of 48 minutes.
Detailed Syllabus
Standardization and Personalization: The role of guidelines in reducing clinical variability; Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) applied to critical care procedures.
Cardiorespiratory Emergency Procedures: Implementation of ALS (Advanced Life Support) guidelines; Advanced airway management and protective ventilation protocols.
Management of the Septic and Unstable Patient: Application of the "Surviving Sepsis Campaign" bundles; Hemodynamic support procedures and safe management of vasoactive drugs.
Nutrition and Metabolism in the Acute Patient: Interpretation of recent research and assessment of risk factors for hospital malnutrition, with a focus on gender differences.
Safety and Infection Control: Procedures for the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (VAP, CRBSI) and monitoring of quality indicators.
