Detailed Syllabus
Pelviperineal Dysfunctions Rehabilitation:
Pelviperineal dysfunctions in adults may be of a urogynecological nature (female and male UI, overactive bladder, urinary retention, pelvic floor statics alterations), coloproctological nature (constipation, fecal incontinence), neurological nature (multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, cauda lesion), or of painful type.
The most common dysfunctions in childhood are enuresis, giggle incontinence, fecal incontinence and soiling, and obstinate constipation. They can be functional in nature or result from rare congenital diseases.
- Assessment: history taking, assessment scales, patient observation and palpation, specific tests, diaries. Illustration of the AIPDA factsheet.
- Definition of objectives and selection of tools based on international guidelines
- Main rehabilitation tools and techniques and their evidence of effectiveness (behavioral therapy and lifestyle modifications, therapeutic exercise, instrumental therapies, vaginal and anal dilators, vaginal balls and cones, continence devices)
Expected Learning Outcomes
The student will acquire:
- awareness of the pelvic floor and its functional relationships (particularly pressure-related) with the diaphragm, abdomen, and pelvis
- knowledge of the main pelvic-perineal dysfunctions and the principles of rehabilitation treatment
