Course Contents
This course presents the development of the interpretation of disease, its prevention and its treatment from prehistoric and ancient times with a particular focus on dentistry.
Reference Texts
Teaching material will be provided to the students.

Learning Outcomes
To gather information on the evolution of medicine and the health professions, improving knowledge concerning the fundamental changes through the periods.
Prerequisites
The student needs a general historical background, as that acquired in pre-university education, and the information acquired in the previous years of the course.
Teaching Methods
Teaching class that includes discussion, reading of historical texts,videos.

Assessment Methods
Written examination on subjects discussed in class, with a multiple choice test. The test will be performed simultaneously with the other topics belonging to the same Course.

• Medicine in prehistory
• Greco-Roman medicine
• Arabian medicine;
• Medicine in the Middle Age and Renaissance;
• The epidemics: Black Plague, Syphilis and Smallpox;
• Medicine and Surgery in the Sixteen-Seventeen Centuries;
• The Nineteen Century:
• The XX century
Expected Learning Outcomes
The student will acquire general information on the history of Medicine and health-care.
