Course Contents
Methodological foundations used in anatomical pathology diagnostics:
· Definition of pathological anatomy;
· Main activities of the anatomical pathologist: autopsy, macroscopic examination, histopathological examination, cytopathological examination, histochemical tests, immunohistochemical tests, molecular pathology tests;
· Completing requests for histopathological and cytopathological examinations;
· Patient privacy protection;
· Procedures for submitting material for anatomical pathology examination;
· Handling of material for histopathological diagnosis: sample fixation and processing; preparation and staining of histological preparations;
· Immunohistochemical techniques in anatomical pathology;
· Molecular biology techniques in anatomical pathology;
· Diagnostic cytopathology: methods for collecting and processing cytological material; principles of cytopathology;
· Light microscopy and observation of histological preparations;
Transmission and scanning electron microscopy.
· Interpretation of pathological findings;
· Disorders of cellular proliferation and differentiation (in particular, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia, neoplasia);
· Classification of neoplasms (histotype, grade, and TNM stage);
· Pathological anatomy of the oral cavity (in particular, precancerous tumors, benign tumors, malignant tumors, odontogenic tumors);
· Pathological anatomy of the salivary glands;
· Pathological anatomy of the tonsils;
· Overview of the pathological anatomy of the cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, digestive, genitourinary, and tegumentary systems.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the student must know the histology, embryology and anatomy of periodontal tissues, as well as know the theoretical and practical bases of histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, ultrastructural pathology, diagnostic phytopathology and molecular biology applied to diagnostics, know the etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and prevention of dental and periodontal diseases in pediatric, adult and elderly patients, and be able to interpret anatomical and pathological reports.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and general pathology is required.
