The eukaryotic cell in its various morphological and functional aspects. Techniques for studying the cell and its components. Eukaryotic cell culture techniques.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student must be familiar with the structure and function of the various cellular organelles, as well as the general principles of the techniques most commonly used to study, isolate, and culture eukaryotic cells.
Prerequisites
The student must possess basic knowledge of chemistry and biology acquired in high school

Frontal lectures in the classroom with the support of Power Point slides (available on the DIR platform)

Assessment Methods
Quiz with multiple choice questions (15 - 20 questions) on paper support. As part of the "Morphology and functions of the human body" course the test result will be taken in account for the definition of the final total exam score
Detailed Syllabus
The eukariotic cell. - The cell membrane: structure, function and specialization. -the active transport through membranes: channels and pumps. -cell membrane receptors. -cell adhesion. -the cytoskeleton. -intracellular compartments: endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, perixosomes. - the “sorting” within the cell: role of signal sequences in the establishing of cell compartments and protein destiny. -exocytosis and endocytosis. -the nucleus. -mitocondria. -apoptosis. -techniques for cell study -the microscopic observation. The optic microscope, the transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), the scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). - The flow cytometry -cell fractionation and separation of its components
Expected Learning Outcomes
Ability to recognize and describe the main constituent elements of a eukaryotic cell. Knowledge of basic methods for the study of eukaryotic cells.
