Learning Outcomes
Students must be able to understand the importance of various anatomopathological methods (cytology, histology, histo-enzymology, and molecular biology) as tools with diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive significance in major neoplastic and chronic inflammatory diseases. In particular, they must understand the impact of technical laboratory activities on the quality of histo-cytopathological diagnosis.
Prerequisites
Fundamentals of normal human anatomy and histology, basic concepts of molecular biology; principles of biological material processing.
Teaching Methods
PowerPoint presentations.
Additional Information
Students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the Staff Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti, consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.
Assessment Methods
Multiple-choice written test covering only topics discussed in class.
Detailed Syllabus
Introduction to anatomical pathology diagnostics: principles of macroscopic and microscopic diagnosis, including autopsy, histological, and cytological methods.
Principles of processing cytological and histological specimens; sample preservation and concepts of fixation.
Intraoperative diagnostics.
Main methods for extracting genomic material from tissues; key molecular diagnostic techniques based on extraction and in situ analysis (FISH).
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the student must be able to understand the significance of histocytopathological and molecular techniques and methods for diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive purposes.
