Reference Texts
A. Giambattista, "Fisica generale. Principi e applicazioni", McGraw-Hill, 2021R. Serway, J. Jewett, "Fondamenti di fisica", Edises, 2022Halliday, Resnick, "Fondamenti di fisica", CEA, 2023D. Giancoli, "Fisica 1" and "Fisica 2", CEA, 2023.
Learning Outcomes
Give the students a knowledge of the fundamental concepts of general physics and of the research methods in physics. Modelling simple systems and understanding some phenomena of ordinary experience.
Prerequisites
Calculus 1
Teaching Methods
Frontal lectures
Additional Information
The slides of the lectures will be available on the DIR web page of the course.

Students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the "Staff Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti", consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities. Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities.
Assessment Methods
Written exam with multiple-choice and open-ended questions, consisting of numerical exercises and theory questions. A non-programmable calculator may be used. The total number of questions is 10. To pass the written exam, a minimum score of 18/30 is required, which is achieved by correctly answering four questions. Correct answers to the other questions earn the full score of 30/30. An additional question allows achieving the "cum laude".
Detailed Syllabus
Physical quantities and units. Kinematics of particles. Forces. Laws of Newtonian dynamics. Work and energy. Gravitational force. Oscillators and waves. Temperature and heat. Principles of thermodynamics. Electric charge. The electric field. Electric force. Gauss's law and its applications. Electric potential. Capacitance and capacitors. Electric current, the Joule effect, resistance. The magnetic field. Lorentz force. Ampère's law and its applications. Forces between currents. Electromagnetic induction and the Faraday-Lenz law. An overview of Maxwell's equations. General characteristics of electromagnetic waves.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the basis of general physics. Ability to understand and solve simple physics problems using the notions acquired during the course.
