Course Contents
The course aims to provide each female and male student with knowledge regarding the functional morphology and the interrelationships between the Immune System and the Nervous System, through the analysis of the anatomical morphologies of lymphatic and lymphoid organs and their specific parasympathetic, orthosympathetic, and somatic innervation profiles.

Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to enable each female and male student to develop a cultural perspective useful for understanding the functional aspects of the immune system and its functionality, with particular regard to its relationships with the nervous system.
The importance recently acquired by neuroimmune relationships in the body's defense processes will enrich each female and male student with a cultural background highly applicable to various professional fields in clinical, pharmacological, and experimental biology.
Prerequisites
Prior knowledge of Human Anatomy, Physiology, and General Pathology is suggested for all female and male students.
Teaching Methods
Delivered as oral presentations of the topics, supported by PowerPoint slide projections and classroom discussions.
The slides used during lectures will be made available to all female and male students enrolled in the course on the respective DIR pages.
An optional end-of-course exam will be agreed upon with all students.

Assessment Methods
ORAL Examination
The oral exam will consist of 3 or 4 questions, and the evaluation of the answers will determine the proposed final grade.
The exam aims to assess the acquisition of knowledge provided by the course and the ability to apply it.
Evaluation will focus on female and male students' knowledge of the structural morphology of the organs covered in the course, their innervation profiles, and the understanding of the functional aspects resulting from this interaction in the physiological expression of organ function. Appropriate clarity of expression will also be assessed as an indicator of the ability to connect and communicate knowledge.
Detailed Syllabus
Organization of the Lymphatic System Lymphatic Vessels, Lymph, and Lymph Nodes. The Lymphoid System. Anatomical and functional description of: Spleen, Thymus, Bone Marrow, and Lymphoid Masses.
The Peripheral Nervous System: Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Anatomy and functional relationships. Innervation of Lymphatic and Lymphoid organs.
The Central Nervous System Encephalic areas of the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic systems functional to the immune response. Neuro-Endocrine-Immune relationships.
GENDER DIMENSION INTEGRATION Hypotheses and data obtained from experimental observations regarding the presence of gender differences in the functional aspects of the analyzed system.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Every female and male student is expected to acquire complete knowledge of the microanatomical aspects of lymphatic and lymphoid structures, as well as knowledge of the innervation profiles specific to each structure.
Each female and male student must develop knowledge of the functional relationships that these structures have within the organization of the human body's immune defense, in relation to physiological and pathological conditions.
Every female and male student is expected to have developed the ability to apply their knowledge practically to identify design/project issues, gather information, and identify and delve into thematic aspects related to neuro-immune issues and their consequences on physiological homeostasis and pathological profiles.
Every female and male student is expected to have developed appropriate communication skills in order to present descriptive aspects and issues related to neuro-immune mechanisms in a clear, concise manner, using appropriate scientific language.
They are also expected to possess the ability to use teaching materials for critical and reasoned study, demonstrating the capacity to autonomously deepen and update their knowledge, through the reading of scientific texts and articles, on topics relating to neuro-immune aspects and their challenges.
