The course, consisting of 36 hours, provides an introduction to the Greek language, beginning with the Greek alphabet and covering the fundamental elements of phonology, morphology and syntax, as well as the basic vocabulary of Attic Greek.

Knowledge of the main elements of Greek grammar; acquisition of a core vocabulary; ability to read and translate simple texts independently and texts of intermediate difficulty with the aid of a facing-page translation.

Written examination assessing knowledge of Greek morphology and basic syntax, together with the ability to translate a Greek text.

Brief introduction to the history of the Greek language. Fundamental principles of phonology, nominal and verbal morphology. Core Attic vocabulary and elements of etymology.

Ability to understand the main grammatical structures of Attic Greek and to read and translate texts in Attic Greek.
