Course Contents
English Language Practical Classes II are organised into two pathways, General English and Business English, both designed to consolidate students' language competence at the B2–B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The General English pathway develops students' skills in reading comprehension, translation from English into Italian, and academic writing through guided translation, grammar and vocabulary practice, and an introduction to the fundamental principles of academic writing. Particular emphasis is placed on linguistic accuracy, text organisation, and the appropriate use of English in academic contexts.
The Business English pathway introduces students to the main areas of professional communication in English, with particular emphasis on the vocabulary and language structures of business, commercial, and economic English. Through activities involving the comprehension of specialised texts, grammar and vocabulary development, and summary writing, students acquire the skills required to understand, synthesise, and use English effectively in professional and academic contexts.

Learning Outcomes
The second-year English Language Practical Classes aim to consolidate students' B2–B2+ CEFR language competence through two complementary pathways: General English and Business English. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and analyse texts of medium-high complexity, apply the main grammatical and lexical structures of contemporary English, produce well-organised written texts, and use English effectively in academic and professional contexts. Students following the General English pathway will develop skills in translation from English into Italian and academic writing, while those following the Business English pathway will acquire specialised business vocabulary and communication skills, including the ability to summarise business-related texts.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of the prerequisite first-year courses in English Language Practical Classes I and Basic English Linguistics.
Teaching Methods
Practical classes include activities in reading comprehension, written production, and the development of grammatical, lexical, and translation skills, as well as oral interaction on topics related to general and professional communication. Students are also expected to undertake independent study of the materials and topics covered during the practical classes.
Additional Information
All students are required to have a copy of the compulsory textbooks listed in the bibliography (excluding optional texts).

Students with disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or Special Educational Needs (SEN) may request dedicated services and support by contacting the Student Services and Career Development Office and consulting the dedicated page on the University website.
After contacting the relevant University Office, students with disabilities, SLD, or SEN may consult the course instructor to discuss any necessary arrangements regarding examination procedures and other teaching-related aspects of the course.
Assessment Methods
General English: written examination (1 hour and 30 minutes), consisting of a translation task (sentences or a short text from English into Italian) and the writing of a 300-word paragraph. The examination assesses students' translation skills, as well as their command of grammar, vocabulary, and academic writing. Students must achieve a minimum mark of 18/30 in each component in order to pass the examination. Oral interaction skills are assessed by the course instructor as part of the English Linguistics A examination (for further details, see the specific syllabus).
Business English: written examination (1 hour and 30 minutes), consisting of vocabulary exercises and a summary writing task, requiring students to produce a 250-word summary based on a specialised text on business and economic topics. The examination assesses reading comprehension, summarising skills, specialised vocabulary, and written production. Students must achieve a minimum mark of 18/30 in each component in order to pass the examination. Oral interaction skills are assessed by the course instructor as part of the English Linguistics A examination (for further details, see the specific syllabus).
Detailed Syllabus

English Language Practical Classes 2 are based on the textbooks, and on further materials uploaded to DIR (Didattica in Rete).
See also the detailed syllabi for GR-A General English e GR B-Business English.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to understand and analyse written texts at the B2–B2+ level in English, both general and specialised, recognising their main grammatical, lexical, and textual features. They will also acquire the fundamental principles of academic writing and professional communication in English.
Students will be able to produce written texts appropriate to academic and professional contexts, making appropriate use of the main grammatical and lexical structures of contemporary English. Depending on the pathway followed, they will be able to translate sentences and short texts from English into Italian (General English) or understand, summarise, and process specialised business and economic texts (Business English), applying the language skills acquired to their respective academic and professional contexts.
