Introduction to testual criticism of the Greek Philosophical text, with special reference to Aristotle and to Aristotle's Metaphysics

Students taking the exam of Philosophical Philology are invited to contact the teacher for special indications and integrations of their exam's program.

Reference texts are the same for attending and non-attending students and no supplement is required for non attending students.

The student will have the opportunity to tackle the work of a fundamental author. Aristotle, thus entering the mechanisms of the Aristotelian writing of the treatise, learning to orient himself within the framework of Aristotelian thought and the history of the tradition of Aristotle's text. The student will have to acquire the ability to interpret and explain the texts under examination with clarity and precision. He will be able to express himself with competence and with adequate vocabulary.

Logical and critical individual skills and interest in the subject matter. Basic knowledge of history of ancient philosophy is welcome.

Candidates are well acquainted with the history and structure of Aristotle's works are dealt with in the class. They will choose at least 10 selected chapters they can read and comment upon. The acquired knowledge will be evaluated as follows: a basic knowledge (i.e. sufficient, 18-22) or advanced (i.e. discrete grade from 23-27), or advanced (from 28 to 30L). About evaluation see also expected results.

Students are expected to acquire the ability to interpret and explain a chapter by Aristotle Metaphysics, taken from a selection of at least ten chapters (or sections of Greek texts, for those who can read Aristotle in Greek). Students will read and explain with clarity and precision, according to measurable levels of knowledge, ability and expository correctness: from a minimum (sufficient) level to a more in-depth (discrete) or comprehensive and adequate (good) up to a level that denotes particular ability to elaborate and communicate (excellent).
