READING MATERIAL FOR THE ORAL PART
For the oral, students will read in the original language the following volume: Almudena Grandes, El corazón helado, Tusquets, 2007.
Students must bring the book they have read (including in digital format) to the exam; it must be free of any marks or notes.

To acquire a higher level of language proficiency, in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages at level C1.2, adapted to university requirements.

Practical language classes and self-study. Use of the Dir service
The course is based on the material contained in the texts listed in the bibliography and on the extra material handed out in class or uploaded to the DIR service.
Additional activities will be carried out in class to strengthen and consolidate linguistic skills in order to meet the objectives of the course

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

Exam text: written paper (same day): 1) essay in the target language (1:45h) and 2) Italian-to-Spanish translation (1:45h) of one or two short texts (total length approx. 2,200 characters, including spaces), to assess advanced-level comprehension and expression skills.
To pass the written part, students must achieve at least 18/30 in both sections – if they pass only one of the two sections, the mark obtained will be valid for 12 months from the date of the exam, and they will only need to sit the section they failed. After 12 months, they will have to retake the entire written exam.
Oral component (a few days later): an interview designed to assess comprehension and expression skills in the language, in accordance with the specified level, including on the basis of set reading material.
Students must bring the book or books they have read to the exam, free from any marks or annotations.
To pass the exam, candidates must achieve a minimum mark of 18/30 in both the written and oral components. The final mark will be the average of the two components (written and oral).

A written test will be considered satisfactory if it demonstrates a rich vocabulary, morphosyntactic variety and precision, and grammatical and communicative accuracy, in accordance with the specified level.
An oral test will be considered satisfactory if the candidate demonstrates the ability to conduct a rich and fluent conversation on diverse and in-depth topics (including those based on the reading/viewing material), and displays, in addition to a command of grammar, a command of various expressive aspects of the language (non-standard registers and varieties, style, pragmatic aspects), in accordance with the specified level.
Examinations that demonstrate a limited and restricted use of lexical and morphosyntactic resources, and which do not demonstrate the grammatical and communicative proficiency corresponding to the required level, will be considered inadequate.

ONGOING LEARNING ASSESSMENT
Assessments in class and at home on the topics covered. In class: finding an authentic text translated into Spanish, critically reviewing the translation, analysing and categorising the errors found, and rewriting the text in Spanish.

Review of the Spanish grammar (syntax) with critical insights. Stylistic improvement of writing expression: language registers (and non-standard varieties), idiomatic expressions, collocations, modismos, refranes); exercises of composition in Spanish and translation from Italian to Spanish (and in reverse).
Obligatory reading (or viewing of films) in original language, also in view of the oral exam.

-Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning.
-Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
-Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
-Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
