The primary objective of the course is to deepen the skills of Spanish linguistics and to refine the use of the Spanish language for professional and academic purposes, particularly in the field of translation, developing the skills and sensitivity of literary creation, and - as a second objective - fostering full (contrastive) awareness of the linguistic datum between the two idioms involved.
From the basic level of simple knowledge and application of specific terminology, analytical tools and notions acquired in class, in the analysis of texts of different natures; up to the fully conscious knowledge and application of the methods and tools offered, on different types of literary texts.

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level, C1) knowledge of general linguistics and Spanish linguistics

Lectures, seminar-style lectures with analysis of examples; assignment of translations/revision of translations (second part of the course) - preparation by lecturer of materials on DIR

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

EXAM
A written exam lasting 2 hours 30 minutes. It consists of: 1) two theoretical questions designed to assess the student’s ability to link together data and concepts from translation studies; 2) a text to be translated and critically analysed on the basis of the linguistic, stylistic and other features involved (or a text to be retranslated, accompanied by a critical analysis of an Italian translation).
DURING THE COURSE
Homework assignments (and class discussion) with self-assessment, based on materials provided by the lecturer.
ASSESSMENT
Written examination (two hours): two open-ended questions, aimed at assessing the student's ability to link linguistic data and the philological method; and an analysis of a philological example (application of the philological criteria starting from the linguistic phenomena involved).
An examination will be assessed as ‘excellent’ if it demonstrates: a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the topics covered in the course; well-developed analytical and summarising skills; excellent command of specialist vocabulary and linguistic concepts; the ability to develop theoretical arguments through the use of a wealth of relevant examples.
An examination will be assessed as ‘satisfactory’ if it demonstrates: knowledge of the subject matter that is at times merely rote; appropriate and correct language; the ability to analyse and summarise; good use of examples in relation to a theoretical exposition, taking into account the various aspects of the subject.
An assignment will be graded as ‘sufficient’ if it demonstrates: a basic knowledge of the syllabus (concepts and methodology), but with an awareness of the methodology and the information acquired; basic and correct use of terminology; the presentation of appropriate examples within the context of the discussion.
An examination will be assessed as unsatisfactory if it demonstrates at least one of the following: significant gaps in knowledge and incorrect understanding of concepts or methodology; inappropriate language and/or grammatically and communicatively incorrect use of Spanish; a mere listing of concepts or definitions, lacking the required conceptual links; a lack of focus on the topic under examination and a scarcity, absence or improper use of examples.

KNOWLEDGE
- To develop theoretical knowledge in the field of linguistics and translation studies, acquiring familiarity with the linguistic-literary phenomena of the Iberian sphere
- To know the theory and technique of literary translation from Spanish into Italian
COMPETENCES
-To be able to recognise and classify in the documents proposed and analysed the phenomena presented theoretically
- To be able to define and illustrate by example the notions discussed in class.
- To be able to use this knowledge in the context of a good literary translation
- Be able to reflect on the characteristics and peculiarities of the two idioms involved in the translation process.
TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
- Being able to describe the main phenomena in a clear and circumstantial manner, using the specific terminology appropriately;
- Being able to translate correctly, and in good Italian, literary texts composed in Spanish, recognising peculiarities and linguistic characteristics.
- Ability to use the manual, dictionary and didactic materials offered on Dir and examined in the classroom.
- Ability to deal consciously and with a versatile approach with new texts to be translated
