The teaching aims to illustrate the functioning of the economic system, the modes of government intervention and related problems. In the Economic Policy module, the main models for analysing the functioning of the economy are presented. Monetary policy and inflation, fiscal policy and unemployment, the significance of the exchange rate in an apert economy and the importance of expectations in explaining economic crises are analysed.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the necessary tools for analysing the modes of government intervention in the economic system. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the fundamental effects and implications of economic policy manoeuvres within the main markets of which the economic system is composed.

Passing the Economics examination. For students choosing Political Economy as an elective: Mathematical Methods 1.

This is an integrated one-year course divided into two semester modules. The course consists of lectures, discussions and tutorials.

The examination is written and consists of two partial examinations, one for each module, of 45 min. each. The examination is passed if you obtain a final mark of no less than 18 and if you obtain a mark of no less than 18 in both papers. The final mark is the average of the marks obtained in the two partial examinations, rounded up. Each student may sit the examination for a maximum of three examinations in the course of a calendar year.

At the end of the course, students will be able to consciously and critically interpret the main mechanisms of functioning of an economic system, and understand the implications and effects of economic policies implemented by the main institutional actors.
