Course Contents
The course, of 15 hours of teaching, explores themes and contents related to the basic concepts related to leadership and assertiveness in order to understand the main theoretical characteristics of the background by adopting with students a direct and engaging approach aimed at stimulating situations of deepening and comparison through comparisons, case studies, practical tests and role-playing games

Learning Outcomes
The course is designed to give you the knowledge you need to get the basics of leadership and assertiveness, with a focus on assertiveness as a leadership style. Being able to put this knowledge into practice can help you develop a thoughtful approach to use in different activities, whether it’s managing, leading, or coordinating a group of people or tasks. The goal is to help you build a sharp sense for analyzing and judging situations so you can figure out the management and leadership style that works best to get the best results. The course also helps you pick up the terms and language you'll need in a professional setting. Integration of the gender dimension, in particular the issue will be explored in depth in order to spark discussion on the matter and develop an aware attitude

Teaching Methods
The course will use a mix of teaching methods including lectures, exercises, role-playing, and case analysis and discussions to help students not only learn the theoretical concepts but also develop their skills in handling specific practical tests.

Individual and group theoretical test for the management of a situation inserted in specific contexts. Written exam to verify understanding of the concepts taught

The leader and his characteristics and attitudes. Leadership, historical notes, reference theories.
The theory of traits or of the great man, the traits of the leader (Hollander, Locke, Bodiou). The theory of leaders' styles: behaviors (Lewin, Lipitt and White), the managerial grid (Blake and Mouton). The situationist approach: the contingency theory/model (Fielder), the decision-making style model (Vroom and Yetton), path goal theory (House and Mitchell), situational leadership (Hersey and Blanchard). The theory of transactional and exchange (Hollander, Burns, Groves, La Rocca).
The transformational and charismatic theory (Burns, Bass, Gundersen). Authentic leadership development (Avolio, Gardner).

Assertiveness, basic characteristics, attitude and characterizing behaviors, central role of self-esteem (Libett, Lewinsohn).
Assertive direction: attitudes, communication, motivation, feedback, the ability to listen, knowing how to give orders, the management of criticism.

Expected Learning Outcomes
Acquire knowledge of concepts related to theories of leadership and assertiveness and be able to express ability to apply management methods and a management style in communication, motivation or management of critical issues
