The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of the fundamental principles of the protection of biodiversity of agricultural and food interest.

No prerequisites required in addition to the skills acquired with the first year courses.

Lectures supported by slides, integrated with moments of guided discussion.
Seminars will be organized during the course to explore specific topics and to host critical student presentations on case studies relevant to the program. Students are invited to attend conferences on the subject, should they be organized by the department or the University, and their participation with brief interventions is highly encouraged, conditions permitting. Furthermore, individual projects will be assigned, requiring critical analysis of course content and its practical application, culminating in an in-class presentation and a written paper. Assessment will take into account not only the knowledge of the contents, but also the capacity for analysis, argumentation and participation in classroom activities.

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.

Attending students prepare a written presentation on a theme agreed with the professor and present it in the classroom. The oral discussion of the paper lasts a maximum of fifteen minutes and it is assessed with a mark out of thirty. An exam performance demonstrating a fair grasp of the subject matter will be rated as good, whereas one demonstrating only minimal knowledge of the syllabus will be rated as sufficient (18/30). Finally, a performance revealing significant gaps in knowledge and an inability to process the material will be rated as insufficient. Distinction (30/30 with honor) is awarded to candidates who demonstrate excellent knowledge and outstanding analytical and synthesis skills.
The grade obtained is recorded as the final exam result; students may choose to reject it and retake the exam under the procedures established for non-attending students.
Non-attending students are required to take a written exam (consisting of three open-ended questions - worth ten points each - to be answered concisely) covering specific readings indicated by the instructor. The exam is considered passed if a score of at least 18/30 is achieved.
All students (both attending and non-attending) are expected to acquire a basic understanding of the legal regulations protecting agrobiodiversity, as well as the ability to apply them to concrete cases.

To achieve the skills and knowledge expected at the end of the course, the student is required to know the basic notions of agro-biodiversity and to reach the end of the course knowing how to examine and understand a practical case in order to find a concrete solution.
