Course Contents
Attention will be paid to the Environmental Regulations on waste and therefore to the in-depth analysis of Part Four of Legislative Decree 152/06 in order to provide the regulatory bases on which the entire framework of the technical management of the Treatment Plants and the planning of the separate collection systems of urban waste is supported. Operational visits to waste treatment plants are planned.

Learning Outcomes
The scope of the course is for students to acquire knowledge and understand the regulatory, methodological and applicative framework for the management and treatment of urban waste. After a framework from a regulatory point of view, as a reference for the management and treatment of waste, case studies and applications in specific sectors are illustrated, complemented by visits to sites of relevance for the regional context
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge is required.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons in the classroom with the aid of slides by the teacher and operational visits to treatment plants.

Assessment Methods
Written exam with assignments on which the student must illustrate by Pc his/her own technical exposition of the topic based on the notions acquired during the Course. Evaluation in thirtieths. Results communicated by mail.
Detailed Syllabus
- Environmental legislation: Legislative Decree 152/06 part IV: Rules on waste management;
- Management and operating principles of waste treatment and recovery plants;
- Verification and process control procedures in waste treatment and recovery plants;
- Planning of separate collection systems for urban waste;
- Operational visit to a wood/plastic/Weee treatment and recovery plant;
- Operational visit to a mechanical biological treatment plant.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Learn the basic regulatory and operational knowledge for the management and treatment of urban waste. Know the main types of waste treatment plants and the main strategies for planning separate collection systems in order to best contextualize the chemical knowledge acquired during the Course of Studies within the urban waste sector.
