Oral exam, in the form of an oral presentation

The materials typically found in cultural heritage and of potential interest in conservation will be presented, with particular attention to the characterisation and conservation of certain classes of materials: stone, plaster, and frescoes. The difference between dyes and pigments will be addressed, with particular reference to ancient pigments, their preparation and characterisation. Examples of applications in the conservation of artefacts will be illustrated. Finally, the most common techniques for dating artefacts will be illustrated.
