Introduction to the interaction of religion & diversity. Religious diversity as an umbrella concept covering all aspects of the interaction of religion and diversity. Religious diversity, sexuality and LGBTQI rights. Religious diversity and migration. Religious diversity, freedom of religion or belief and religious minorities rights.

a) Defining in legal and interdisciplinary terms the concepts of religion and diversity and their different forms of cultural, linguistic and institutional interrelation;

b) Highlighting the different legal effects of religious diversity;

c) Reconstructing the concept of religious diversity within the intersection between religion, gender identity and sexuality;

d) Reconstructing the concept of religious diversity in the prism of migration and international protection;

e)Reconstructing the concept of religious diversity in the context of religious minorities;

Knowledge of European Law and religion and constitutional law is recommended.

Frontal Instruction, exercises, and laboratory

The course will be supported by multimedia tools (DVD, Youtube).

The examination will take place during the classes through the active participation and elaboration of a final paper.

Sessions 1-2 (6 hours). Religion, human rights and diversity: an interdisciplinary perspective.
Sessions 3-4-5 (6 hours). Religious diversity and religious minorities: genesis, development, and circulation of a legal concept.
Sessions 7-8-9 (6 hours). Sexual minorities and religious freedom: paths and challenges in international and European law.
Sessions 10-11-12 (6 hours). Religious persecution and religious diversity: the circulation of a legal concept and its transformation.

Expected results: They can be divided into three distinct categories: 1) Results in terms of technical and legal knowledge: knowledge of the main sources of law; knowledge of the legal principles relating to the topics dealt with; knowledge of the functioning of institutions of domestic law and international law. 2) Results on the level of civic education: maturation of a more critical social conscience on the issues of diversity; the fight against discrimination, respect for human rights 3) Results on the full transversal competences: expository capacity in the classroom; properties of legal language; ability to resolve problematic issues of a legal nature; ability to apply the rules to concrete cases.
