The course aims to deepen skills in Spanish linguistics and to refine the use of the Spanish language for professional and academic purposes, particularly in tourism (LM 49). From the basic level of simple knowledge and application of specific terminology, analytical tools and notions acquired in class, in the analysis of texts of different natures; up to the fully conscious knowledge and application of the methods and tools offered, on different text types. Possess higher level language competence (C1.2), adapted to university requirements.

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level)

Lectures, seminar lectures with analysis of examples; the course also includes the preparation of example materials on DIR
Language exercises and workshops, individual study. The course is based on the material contained in the texts listed in the bibliography and extra material distributed in class or uploaded onto the DIR platform. Other activities will be carried out in class to reinforce and consolidate language skills in order to achieve the course objectives. Students will be constantly invited to work on error, as a source of enrichment in language learning, and on language self-awareness. There will be activities with discussion of errors, presentation of exemplary cases.

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

Written and oral exams. The final exam is closely integrated with the two modules, both of which fall within the lecturer’s remit: the mark is the average of the two parts (minimum: 18/30 in both).
LINGUISTICS Written exam (2h30): 1) two open-ended questions on the main phenomena covered (characteristics of specialised languages; linguistic description of key features of Spanish for tourism; relationships between genres and specific linguistic features in the tourism sector); 2) analysis or production of a short text belonging to the genres examined in class.
Students must demonstrate their ability to present the specified content in good Spanish and in a structured manner; to recognise the linguistic data presented, analyse it and place it within the relevant theoretical framework.An assignment will be assessed as ‘excellent’ if it demonstrates: a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the topics covered in the course; well-developed analytical and summarising skills; excellent command of the specialist vocabulary and linguistic concepts; the ability to develop theoretical arguments through the use of relevant examples; -‘satisfactory’: knowledge of the subject matter that is at times merely rote; appropriate and correct language; good analytical and summarising skills; good use of examples in relation to a theoretical exposition, taking into account the various aspects of the specialised use of the Spanish language; -sufficient: basic knowledge of the syllabus, but with an awareness of the method of linguistic analysis of the texts; basic and correct use of terminology; presentation of appropriate examples; -unsatisfactory: a piece of work demonstrating at least one of the following characteristics: significant gaps in knowledge and incorrect understanding of concepts or methodology; a mere listing of notions/definitions, lacking the required conceptual links; a lack of focus within the topic under examination (with a scarcity, absence or incorrect use of examples); language unsuitable for the subject matter and use of Spanish not commensurate with the required level.
LECTORATE Written paper (same day): 1) essay in the target language (1h 45); 2) Italian-to-Spanish translation (1h 45) of one or two short texts (approx. 2,200 characters, including spaces), testing advanced-level skills. Minimum mark: 18/30 in both parts – if only one part is passed, the mark is valid for 12 months from the date of the exam, and only the failed part will need to be retaken. After 12 months, candidates must retake the entire written exam. Oral: an interview designed to assess comprehension and expression skills in the language, in accordance with the specified level, including on the basis of set reading material.
Minimum mark of 18/30 in both the written and oral parts: the final mark will be the average of the two.
A written test demonstrating a rich vocabulary, morphosyntactic variety and precision, and grammatical and communicative accuracy, in accordance with the specified level, will be considered satisfactory. An oral examination will be considered satisfactory if the candidate demonstrates the ability to conduct a rich and fluent conversation on diverse and in-depth topics (including those based on the assigned readings or viewings), and displays, in addition to a command of grammar, a grasp of various expressive aspects of the language (non-standard registers and varieties, style, pragmatic aspects), in accordance with the specified level.
Assignments that demonstrate a limited and restricted use of lexical and morphosyntactic resources, and which do not demonstrate a command of grammar and communicative skills appropriate to the level, will be considered inadequate.
ONGOING ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING Class and homework assessments on the topics covered. In class: finding an authentic text translated into Spanish, critically reviewing the translation, analysing and classifying the errors found, and rewriting the text in Spanish.

The course integrates the study of specialised tourism language in the Spanish-speaking world (communicative characteristics, text types, contrasts with Italian, translation issues, etc.) and the refinement of the instrumental language (language registers and non-standard varieties, idiomatic expressions, collocations, modismos, and refranes) with particular attention to composition in Spanish and translation.
LINGUISTICS:
This course is meant as an introduction to Spanish for specific purposes (Tourism). The first part will concentrate on the on specialized languages and their properties, and in particular on Spanish Language for Tourism, and textual genres (guía, folleto) that characterize it. The second part of the course will be devoted to linguistic analysis and production of documents relevant to these genres. Work will also be done on the translation of tourist texts.
LECTORATE:
Review of the Spanish grammar (syntax) with critical insights. Stylistic improvement of writing expression: language registers (and non-standard varieties), idiomatic expressions, collocations, modismos, refranes); exercises of composition in Spanish and translation from Italian to Spanish (and in reverse).
Obligatory reading (or viewing of films) in original language, also in view of the oral exam.
