The contents of the module will be focused to presenting the basic concepts of cultural anthropology, with particular attention to aspects relating to:
•the basics of cultural anthropology with respect to cultural diversities, main theoretical frameworks, and the ethnographic method.
•the transmission and interaction processes, the identity and social bond construction, with a focus on contemporary scenarios.
•other forms of multiculturalism.

Introduce students to the critical knowledge of some basic concepts of cultural anthropology, with regard to the working fields near future of the professional educator. To develop the ability to interpret and critically position some traits of anthropological culture. Knowing how to communicate the acquired knowledge critically using an appropriate terminology.

Background knowledge are not required. The course provides basic and advanced knowledge.

Lectures with the help of slides and ethnographic videos. Eventually, a seminar with the students will be organized.

The slides used during the course, and other teaching materials will be provided on the DIR website.

The exam is aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning objectives. It consists of an oral test. The oral test lasts about 25 minutes. The mark is given based on 30 possible points. The exam will be considered successful with a minimum score of 18 points. The mark is assessed according to the following criteria:
- from 18 to 21/30: acceptable knowledge and comprehension of the basic concepts of the books indicated in the bibliography; sufficient critical reasoning skills and ability to make mental association; fair ability to organize and present the acquired knowledge clearly and effectively and to communicate the issues by using an appropriate terminology; fair ability to acquire new skills; - from 22 to 25/30: the same items with a satisfactory performance;
- from 26 to 28/30: the same items with a good performance;
- from 29 to 30/30 (with possible honors): the same items with an excellent performance.

- Basic concepts of cultural anthropology;
- Family and kinship;
- Rites of passage and the cycle of life in the contemporary world;
- Disability: an anthropological approach;
- Race and racism.

The student must acquire the skills of:
a. understanding some basic concepts of cultural anthropology with regards to cultural diversities, main theoretical frameworks, and the ethnographic method.
b. analysing and formulate judgments on the concepts learned.
c. communicating the acquired knowledge using an appropriate terminology.
