Roman History:
• Objectives - knowledge and understanding: The module intends to analyse the social, political, military, and legal dynamics of Sulla age (88-78 BC), The deepening of political, military, religious, and cultural issues will generally be conducted through the direct examination of ancient documentary sources, thus contributing to a more mature approach to the historiographic method.
• Objectives - ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Understand historical facts and learn how to analyse them within a precise chronological, political, and social context, with constant reference to the main historiographic themes of the republican period, and relying on documentary sources.
• Objectives - expression of opinions: Know how to independently assess the historical facts of the age that have been taken into account, in light of a multidisciplinary approach, also with reference to long-term history.
• Objectives - communication skills: Know how to clearly report the main issues of the period under consideration, know how to communicate the political, social, military, religious, and cultural implications using appropriate language, and to provide motivated and in-depth evaluations.
• Objectives - ability to study: Know how to deepen the subject matter of the course through the study of specific monographs and the exegetical analysis of the reference sources, gaining critical skills to undertake successive studies even on a professional basis.

Medieval History:
The primary objective is to make students acquire the ability to analyze medieval texts, establishing links with the concepts learned in the graduate courses, in order to learn the basic rules of historical research.

Roman History:

Medieval History:
Having taken the examinations of Medieval History A and B.

Roman History:
Lectures, seminars, online tutorials.

Medieval History:
Seminar meetings, with active involvement of students in reading and analyzing the source.

Roman History:
Attendance in class is recommended.

Medieval History:
The course requires mandatory attendance and active participation.

Roman History:
Oral examination. Attending students: it will be proposed three questions: the first question will focus on G. Brizzi, Silla; the second question will focus on G. Brizzi, Ribelli contro Roma; the third question will focus on a source illustrated and commented in class (the students will find the sources on DIR). Non-attending students: one of three questions will focus on A. Momigliano, Manuale di storia romana, pp. 1-142. In order to achieve a minimum mark (18/30), the student should be familiar with the basics. The formulation of the overall mark will be based on the following elements: use of appropriate scientific terminology 10% of the assessment; for the answer to the three questions, 30% for each of them.

Medieval History:
The final exam includes an oral examination lasting about 30 minutes. The aim is to verify the full command of the notions presented among the objectives and the expected cultural outcome through an examination including questions on the main problems treated in the course, in order to verify: 1. the acquisition of a critical capacity in the analysis of problems, 2. the acquisition of a critical capacity in the use of sources, 3. the use of appropriate scientific terminology, 4. the ability to establish links between the topics. Points will be awarded in percentages: 1. 30%; 2. 30%; 3. 20%; 4 10%; 5. 10%. Honors will be awarded on the basis of an assessment of accuracy, depth of analysis and ability to process knowledge.

Medieval History:
The program comprehends reading and analyzing the chronicles by Geoffroy de Villehardouin, Robert de Clari and Niketas Coniates about the IVth Crusade and the fall of Constantinople in 1204

Roman History:
Knowledge of the historical events of Sulla's age (88-78 b. C.) and analyzing them in a chronological, political and social context, with constant reference to major historiographical ancient sources.

Medieval History:
Basic level: students should acquire a solid knowledge about the main issues of the history of the Fourth Crusade and the fall of Constantinople.
Advanced level: students should be able to show a professional approach to the analysis of historiography and sources about the history of the Fourth Crusade and the fall of Constantinople.
